Whitney Proper completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. Her primary concentration is in sculpture but also works in letterpress, book arts and has a minor psychology. Whitney’s work has been in juried shows and was published twice in the MTSU Honors publication Collage: A Journal of Creative Expression. In 2014, Whitney was awarded an International Education Scholarship from MTSU to study abroad in Denmark and Norway. There she taught children art and learned about the historical and contemporary arts of Scandinavia.
Over the past year, Whitney collaborated with artists, Amber Lelli and Sadie Monroe to create a large-scale, suspended installation for the Bonnaroo Exhibition for the Bonnaroo Music and Arts festival at the Nashville International Airport (BNA). She then went on completing her thesis show "Chrysalis/Catalyst" where she displayed the strengths of her works in sculpture and printmaking that revolve around her theme of death and illness. After graduating, she interned for Hatch Show Print in Nashville, Tennessee as a printmaker. Whitney currently lives right outside of Nashville, TN and continues to make art.
